Presence of minerals e.g. Calcium & Magnesium is one of the reasons of hard water resulting into scaling problems in water heaters. Thus, transfer of heat is low. Boiler humidifiers and plumbing systems are also effected.
In this case, hardener is treated by chemical - physical methods which includes passing hard water through columns, filled with resins. Resins acts as an absorbent for calcium and magnesium ions from the hard water. Over a period of time, resin also needs replacement after getting exhausted.
